Hereafter referred to as “the Adopting Organization.”

1. Purpose

The purpose of this Agreement is to establish the terms and responsibilities under which the Adopting Organization will participate in the Town’s Adopt-a-Highway program by removing litter and maintaining the appearance of a designated section of public roadway.

3. Duration of Agreement

This Agreement shall be valid for a period of two (2) years, beginning on the effective date above. The Agreement may be renewed upon mutual consent of both parties.

4. Responsibilities of the Adopting Organization

The Adopting Organization agrees to:

• Conduct litter cleanup along the adopted roadway segment at least two (2) times per year, preferably in spring and fall.

• Provide adult supervision for volunteers under the age of 18.

• Ensure all volunteers wear high-visibility safety vests during cleanup activities.

• Stay off the travel lane and work only along the shoulders and ditches, maintaining a safe distance from moving traffic.

• Place filled trash bags at pre-arranged pickup locations for the Town to collect.

• Report each cleanup to the Highway Department using the provided form or email contact.

5. Responsibilities of the Town

The Town agrees to:

• Provide safety vests, litter bags, and guidance for each cleanup event.

• Install a roadside sign recognizing the Adopting Organization within 30 days of the first completed cleanup.

• Remove filled trash bags from designated collection points within 48 hours of notification.

• Provide a safety briefing sheet and coordination contact for future communication.

• Maintain records of participation and offer public recognition when appropriate.

6. Termination

Either party may terminate this Agreement at any time by providing written notice. The Town may also remove signage and rescind the adoption in cases of non-compliance or safety violations.

7. Liability

All volunteers participating in the program do so at their own risk. The Adopting Organization agrees to release and hold harmless the Town, its employees, officers, and agents from any claims, actions, or liabilities arising from participation in this program. Volunteers are not considered employees of the Town for any purpose.
